Layover

Today was a layover day. In the morning, We brought the boat over from the city marina to Camache Cove Marina located on the north side of the Vivano Beach bridge. We tied up to the fuel dock because that is closer to the boatyard than the slip we are assigned to. At 1:00 a mechanic came to start working on the broken gauges issue.

After about an hour and a half, he had diagnosed and fixed the problem. It was a wire behind the starboard gauges that came loose yesterday in the rough seas. But, in fixing the gauges, he also made it so we could start the engines independently of one another, except that now they would not shut off independently. As mentioned in an earlier blog, the only way to turn on an engine was to have both keys on. Then, if only one engine was started, the key alarm for the other engine would whistle until the engine was turned on. There was never an issue with turning the engines off independently. This starting issue was now fixed, but now both keys have to be off in order for the engines to shut down.

Marvin and the mechanic conferred. The mechanic thought he could isolate the issue and fix it so both engines worked independently - starting and stopping. In another hour, the mechanic had figured it out and fixed it. Now we have two separate, independently operating engines. If one engine goes down, we can limp (quietly with no key alarm) in on the other engine. Yeah!

While we waited in the morning for the mechanic, we explored the shops and restaurants that ring the basin where this marina is located. The marina highly recommended Dessert First, a coffee and lunch bistro. The recommendation was spot on. It was so good, we came for lunch later.

The marina has nice bathrooms and a great captain's lounge. There's even a computer. I took advantage of the services they offer, including the computer, and updated the blog and did laundry to keep out of the mechanic's way.

We moved to the slip when the mechanic was done. Marvin did a great job again of backing into the slip. We didn't even need the dock hands to grab the lines. Immediately after docking, Marvin caught Uber to the airport to pick up a rental car. We'll be ready to drive to Miami in the morning, leaving the boat for a week.
