Calypso beat soon...

Lee piloting Calypso to St Marks December, 2021

Returning from summer cruising in coastal Maine, it’s time to get back on the restoration of our 1964 Pearson Ensign, Calypso. While we were away, Carson at Shields Marina was been steady at prepping, painting and addressing mysterious fiberglass blisters in the forward starboard quarter.

Carson at Shield's - very attentive to details and fiberglass wizard.

Teak floorboards were repaired and oiled prior to taking Calypso to St. Marks

Now we’ve reinstalled the hardware we removed for painting, figuring out where all the pieces go, and resealing with Life Caulk. We’ve purchased new running lights and a Garhauer motor mount for our Torqeedo electric outboard.

Pearson Ensign No. 627 - bringing back the sailing sense of our 1960 Triton, No. 123, Tropicbird

It won’t be long before we step the mast and rig a new Harken roller fuller for the headsail. New sails are ready to hank on.

Just a little more work on fairing the bottom and reinstalling the rudder with a new rudder shaft. When she was hauled last December, we removed the shaft from the rudder and it fell apart, into 3 pieces.

We look forward to splashing and then sailing down the St. Marks River, on Apalachee Bay, back to Calypso’s berth. Bay Breeze will like having her daysailing sister for company.

Props to Zeke for helping facilitate the purchase of Calypso on May Day a couple years ago and his font of knowledge on Ensigns.

Thanks for reading!
